Stig of the Dump

Literacy this term we are doing a novel study.
The novel we are reading is Stig of the Dump, by Clive King.

Chapter 4. Page 56.

Barney took his hat off and scratched his head. How was he to explain to Stig about the meet of the fox-hounds, and how he wanted them to join in? He looked at the drawings on the wall of the cave and they gave him an idea. He put down the spear and picked up a charred stick. ‘Look Stig’, he Said. ‘Fox!’ And he carefully did his best drawing of a fox on the wall of a cave.

This part of the book inspired our Thursday Art lesson.

It took us around thirty minutes to get to the stadium

Science week is nearly here....

Science week is to begin next week, so to prepare ourselves for a fun week ahead our Secondary Biology teacher Mr. Winstanley dissected a cow's heart today in the Biology laboratory.

As we had studied the heart during the first term, Year 5 had many questions to ask and also had a lot to talk about. We also shared this experience with Miss Conway and the Year 6 students.

Happy New Year!! + technology challenges!!

In anticipation of Science week, which will start in two weeks time, year five thought we should 'tryout' some of the technology challenges...
This particular challenge asks the class to imagine that some people are injured at the bottom of a sheer rock face, and they need medicine, some of which is fragile and has to be packaged so that it will not break.
There is also no cord to lower this medicine gently and there is also no wind.

The class has been given 10 sheets of A4 paper, 1m of selotape, 1m of string and a raw egg as the medicine.
The egg is the medicine.

Oh dear!! This medicine didn't make it....

Success!!

Let’s try a parachute ….

Finally the last group... will the medicine make it down the cliff face??

SUCCESS!!!
